The other important part of the testing is the equipment connected to the fixed wiring.
Historically this is known as Portable Appliance Testing (PAT). However whilst this may be items that can be unplugged such as kettles, it can also include non portable appliances such as built in ovens.
- Inspection and testing can only be done by a competent person.
- Items must, by law, be tested at regular intervals.
- The testing intervals vary depending on the type of appliance and type of premises. The same equipment would be inspected more often in a school than an office for instance.
- Equipment tested will have a label attached with a unique number, date to be retested and PASS or FAIL.
- FAIL items must be removed from use and replaced or repaired.
